DBC sucks? Oh yes you bet!

DBC sucks because I think that the DBC is a dysfuntional orginzation. Going to AG Bell conferences for protest against a rally at AG Bell is ridiculous. They want to bash against AG Bell. It is senseless for them to protest a rally against AGBell. Why can't they respect thier philosphy? AG Bell didn't protest a rally against DBC because they respect DBC's philosphy. I totally understand DBC is trying to educate hearing parents of deaf child about ASL. I admit I'd agree with them because I believe deaf baby are capable of learning ASL by signing to them from thier parents, siblings, teachers, friends and relatives. Instead of protest a rally against AG Bell, we need to educate speech pathologists, doctors including pediatrician, or counselors about teaching deaf babies to expose ASL at an early age if possible. DBC could host a workshop for speech pathologists, doctors, counselors, hearing parents of deaf child or anyone who might be interested in learning ASL and its language. That would be the best tool for them to expose and understand the roots of ASL and teach deaf babies ASL.

  2. You've given very valid suggestions and they deserve to be implemented.

The problem often has to be brought to consciousness, however, before people are willing to listen to solutions such as yours.

Rallies, demonstrations, and the like are one way to raise public awareness. It makes people think and become more open to reading about it, out of curiosity. Hopefully they then go to seeking solutions, but often raising consciousness has to happen several times before they do seek them.

Busy professionals will often resist new ideas especially by laypersons, so the groundwork has to be laid first in the schools where they get their training and with their professors.

Parents are another group who need to be introduced to these ideas step by step, often after a very thorough and PR-managed indoctrination by the auditory-oral profession.

  3. I agree with you Dianrez. Public awareness can be used magazines, radio, newspapers, tv (i know $$$), internet or share info with others.

Colleges and Universities need to offer courses such as Audism or the difference between AG Bell and DBC or something like that. That will be a good benefit for everyone.

  4. DBC make us look bad. The protests agianst AG Bell exhibit profound disregrad for choices the parents decided. AG Bell are chosen by parents who wants their children hear and speak. When they protest AG Bell, they object to the parents, too. One shuldn't force hearing parents use ASL.

They ingore Deaf Community think education the best approach. They disrespect Deaf Community big time.

  5. Deafy, you are entitled to making your own opinion but excuse me for differing you on this. I have attended many protests, rallies and marches... Rally is big difference from protest. both have different purposes and fuctions. It was not DBC who organized the rally, it was AFA, Audism Freedom America. They got people together for peaceful gathering, raise public awareness. AGBELL do not own the sidewalks and streets. They are paid by our taxpayers therefore our citizens have the freedom to assembly. If AGBELL wish to organize a rally at front of Gallaudet University or other well known places, they have the right to do that.
I don't see any harm done and DBC and AFA do Deaf community a great service. Peace out.

  6. What? That's one year news. Do you actually think DBC is all about protesting against AGB? They actually rallied the message to share out in the open and welcomed parents to attend workshops for FREE not just protesting the way you put at it. Didn't you know that DBC has been involved in giving workshops to EHDI, contacting with parents, sharing ASL resources and much more?

Yes, they are protesting against AGB's ideology in having AVT to ban from signing with Deaf children. We should be saying that AGB sucks by not giving parents full information about the downside of oralism and that there are psychological and emotional issues that linger in them because of their negative experience growing up oral.

I have faith in DBC that they will make a difference to help parents understand the big picture on the long run. Just wait and see.

  9. Does it look too pathetic when dbc supporters denied themselves that it was just a RALLY???
What does it look like? AFA and DBC uses racism ASL with these words as oralism and ci. How ironic is that?
They are scared that deaf population is on the decline! Also, they are scared that many deaf schools are closing.
They couldn't blame themselves but to others which is a typical deaf behavior. Have you noticed that? Of course, it comes with impulsive package from the day one!!!
Dbc should have been open minded with agbell and work together as a team. A team is much more powerful tool to success than solo!
AFA's recent vlog has not learn a single lesson- Ella's response is an example of denial. Russell has made an excellent point and he is one of the braviest person with an excellent composure.
